PhD American University Scholarship Call for Applications


The Doctoral American University Scholarship Program in Political Theory is interdisciplinary, and covers four main areas of study: philosophy (ethics and applied philosophy, political and social philosophy, and issues in contemporary philosophy), political theory (ethics of international relations and human rights theories), law (international law, humanitarian law, and international criminal law), and politics and economics (international political economy, development policies, sustainability theories, international relations, and theories of globalization). American University Scholarship Approximately twenty faculty members, including both Italian professors and foreign visiting professors, currently teach on the program, and there are more than thirty doctoral students, half of which are foreign. The program thus has a strongly international character.

American University Scholarship Applicants are generally expected to have majored in an area of the social sciences, humanities, or philosophy, although those with degrees in other disciplines may also be considered on the basis of their curricula vitae and research proposals. Successful applicants will begin the program in the Fall semester of 2011, by following three semesters of taught courses. Each semester lasts approximately three months, and students will have approximately 6-10 hours of classes per week during these three semesters. All American University Scholarship courses are taught in English.

Postdoctoral position in American University Scholarship


American University Scholarship The Centre's mission is to inspire and promote new scientific and technological knowledge in the field microbiorobotics, full of inventions, from a multidisciplinary approach will provide scientific problems addressed. Scientific activities in micro-robotics and intelligent materials platforms performed.
The
American University Scholarship application is invited for the following position:
- 1 Junior or Senior (2 years experience after Ph.D. or equivalent experience) post-doctoral positions
The
American University Scholarship ideal candidate expertise in one or more of the following feature: organic chemistry, electrochemistry, biochemistry, and / or analytical chemistry. Earlier experiments on reaction mechanisms and kinetics are also beneficial.
He/she will work in a microengineering context in close collaboration with engineers/physicians/biologists for the development of new sensors, actuators and microrobots. In particular, for these new devices some specific developments will be: ionic solutions for osmotic type of actuation; soft, self-propelling structures and oscillating hydrogels; mono- and multi-layer bio-inspired membranes.
The American University Scholarship successful applicant has free spirit, strong capacity to generate novel ideas at the borderline of science and technology, and wishes to work in team and cooperate over various disciplines. Proficiency in writing/spoken English is mandatory.
The position is available from May, 2011 for 12 months with a contract renewable on the basis of performance. Salary and benefits are highly competitive for international standards. The American University Scholarship candidate will join a young and enthusiastic team and will co-tutor several PhD students working in the above mentioned research areas.

PhD American University Scholarship Studentship in Limnology/Aquatic Biogeochemistry


The PhD-American University Scholarship project is part of the Centre of Excellence ”Cryosphere-atmosphere interactions in a changing arctic climate (CRAICC; http://www.atm.helsinki.fi/craicc/), financed by NordForsk. Cooperation with Helsinki University and the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) is part of the project which includes field work for the gathering of own data as well as analyses of already existing large datasets.

Eligibility Details:

To be eligible for a PhD-American University Scholarship student position, the applicant must hold a University degree in natural sciences, engineering or comparable with a focus on aquatic biogeochemistry/aquatic ecology/limnology/water and environmental engineering or other relevant subjects. In ranking eligible candidates, special importance will be given to scientific skills in relation to the subject area specified. Special weight will be given to earlier experience in statistics/modelling as well as GIS since large databases need to be handled. In addition, experience with field work is meriting. Strong motivation and capacity to independent work are important qualities. The American University Scholarship applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English. In filling this position the university aims to recruit the person who, in the combined evaluation of competence, skills and documented qualifications, is judged most suitable to carry out and develop the work-in-hand and to contribute to a positive development of the department.

Position Details:

The American University Scholarship postgraduate training comprises four years of full time studies. The position can be combined with up to 20 % of teaching assistantship, which will then prolong the position accordingly. Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in Dementia for Australian Students, Australia

Scholarship Description: Alzheimer’s Australia Research Limited (AAR) is a non-profit company formed to promote, disseminate and fund research into all aspects of dementia. Every year there is an application process for grants and scholarships. The Viertel Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships in Dementia is offered to a PhD graduate who has either attained, or will shortly satisfy the requirements for a PhD degree. The fellowship is awarded for two years, with a value of $45,000 per annum on condition that the fellowship is cost-shared by the applicants’ institution. Grants are awarded in both biological/non-clinical and clinical/psychosocial research areas. One fellowship will be awarded in 2011 for research commencing in 2012.
Eligibility:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia
  • Have been awarded (or notified of success of their application for) a PhD or equivalent degree (e.g. MD by research) in the last three years
  • Have the support of an Australian Tertiary Institution or Australian Medical Research Institute to carry out the proposed research
  • li>The research proposal must be judged to relate to research in dementia
